Prof. Aden Guled Shabel is the deputy rector for academic affairs at Somali National University (SNU) since its reinception in 2014; he is also a professor of ethics of law at the university. Prof Aden graduated from Somali National University faculty of political science in 1980 and the Institute of National Strategy where he earned his Master Degree and later attended University of Toulouse in Frances (Université de Toulouse). He joined academics earlier his career life where he was initially recruit as assistant lecturer at SNU in which he eventually ended up in professorship.
As a Somali scholar and a Diaspora returnee, Prof. Aden actualized his longtime dream of restoring Somalia’s only public National University and the only source of publicly funded higher education for Somali Youth, by chairing a national committee specially made for restoring the university’s assets including its campuses which were mainly shattered in Somalia’s civil war.
As the deputy rector for academic affairs, He is currently responsible for supervision and inauguration programs and policies that uphold academic excellence in SNU, guaranteeing quality of academic programs, overseeing the proper planning and coordination of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs, coordination of curriculum development, and ensuring optimal utilization of academic resources and facilities.
Besides his outstanding academic accomplishments, he also played a leading role in many public positions including: Director of regional projects control unit, deputy president of Somali Youth Union in which Prof Aden won legendary national silver medals and represented the country in many international symposiums in different countries including USA, India, Romania, Germany and Sudan. Prof. Aden in addition to his mother language (Somali) he is also fluent in English and French.
