The Somali National University is happy to announce its annual conference on Higher Education in Post-Conflict Societies will be taking place once again on July 24 -26, 2018 in Mogadishu, Somalia. This year’s theme titled “Rising to the Challenges: Research, Innovation and Development” is in response to the thematic priorities that emerged from the 2016 inaugural conference, which addressed the role of higher education in post-conflict societies.

Research and innovation constitute thematic areas that simultaneously present challenge as well as opportunity for Somalia’s higher education sector. Building capacity in academic research is the main goal of this conference, to address Somalia’s utmost challenges and generate sustainable economic and social development. Capacity building in research focuses on wider systemic relationships at national, regional and global levels, as well as financial and political investment in strengthening research environment at the local level. This conference is thus an initiative designed to play a key role in facilitating dialogue and partnerships among academic community at local, regional and global levels. The vision is for Somalia’s higher education sector to meet the demand for SDGs on priority sectors such as health, education, economy, security and justice.

Interested academics, researchers and experts and higher education practitioners are kindly invited to submit abstracts on any of the priority sectors of development such as education, health, economy, security and justice within the conference theme of building capacity in research and innovation. Submissions are requested to consider pathways of capacity building including but not limited to:

Research programmes in equitable education, health and economic development
Youth capacity building to support prospects for new generation of young researchers.
The relationship between youth poverty, justice and security
