UNESCO-TWAS Programme: “Seed Grants for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI)”

The call is now open for applications for the TWAS Programme “Seed Grants for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI)“, fully funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The SG-NAPI Programme supports research projects in 9 scientific fields: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Information Computer Technology, Mathematics, Medical Sciences and Physics

Please note that the call for the SG-NAPI Programme remains open until 24 May 2022 and invites strong applications by scientists from 47 selected African countries, if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • aged 40 or below (any applicant turning 41 in the year of application is not eligible),
  • obtained their PhD abroad (outside his/her home country) within the last 5 years and returned to his/her home country within the last 36 months or will return home before the end of 2022,
  • must hold a position at an academic and/or research institution (including international research centres) in their home country,
  • must be national of an eligible African country (in the Sub-Saharan region).

Early career African scientists, especially women scientists, are encouraged to apply for this Programme.
