Ms. Deka Mohamed Qalib - Deputy Rector for Admin and Finance

Biography

Ms. Deka Mohamed Qalib is an education professional and institutional leader with more than nineteen years of experience in academic leadership, institutional management, teaching, and staff development. She holds a Master’s degree in English Language Teaching (2013) and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English Language and Education Studies (2012).

She has a proven record of building academic institutions from the ground up. At SIMAD University, as Director of Studies, she was instrumental in establishing the Institute of Modern Languages, recruiting its academic team, setting its strategic direction, and managing scheduling for more than 1,500 students each semester. She later served as Vice Principal of Academics at Huda International School in Istanbul, leading curriculum development, special education provision, and professional development for teaching staff.

Since 2024 she has served as Higher Education Specialist and Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education, supporting the establishment of the English Language Institute at Somali National University, co-authoring the five-year strategic plan for the Directorate of Higher Education, and building partnerships with international universities for postgraduate scholarships.

In 2020 she founded the Somali Action Network (Badbaadi Naf), a non-profit that mobilised diaspora, business, and medical communities to deliver oxygen plants to hospitals across Somalia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Deputy Rector for Administration and Finance, she leads the university’s administrative operations, financial stewardship, and organisational capacity.
